The International Association of Oil and Gas Producers – IOGP has announced the release of Geomatics Guidance Note 24: Vertical Data in Oil and Gas Applications as well as the updated version of the Guidelines for the conduct of offshore drilling hazard site surveys (DHSS).
Guidance Note 24 provides advice on best practices for using vertical references. Vertical references are heights or depths given relative to familiar well-known elevations like “mean sea level” or “kelly bushing”. The Energistics standards follow the IOGP guidance on this matter and their advice is incorporated into the Common Technical Architecture which underlies the new generations of WITSML, PRODML and RESQML.
